Yea, if you join a game that your party is already in and playing, you will evolve as a monster if it's open. It's only if you all join at the same time that you can't pick it. It's actually annoying because we normally just end up giving up as the monster and getting an easy win since we matchmaking to play as matchmakings. My thoughts were evolve solo queuers were regularly getting put as monster simply because of the restriction that people in groups can't have a player as a monster.
